چکیده

Toxic contaminants moving along with runoff usually contaminates shrimp farms in most areas of Satkhira district, southwest Bangladesh. An investigation was carried out to assess the Physico-chemical properties and heavy metal concentration sediments water from Bangladesh during December 2020 March 2021. Twelve sediment samples were collected six Ghers two Upazilla e.g., Debhata Assasuni Satkhira. attributes such as temperature, DO, BOD5, pH, TDS, EC, turbidity, salinity, HCO3-/CO3-, SO4-, NO3-, PO4- estimated. The TDS (2280-5250 mg/l), EC (4380-9670 µs/cm), Turbidity (50.8-348 NTU), HCO3-/CO3- (219.6-445.3 NO3- (0.3635-1.94 mg/l) observed be higher than allowable standards recommended by WHO FAO. Five trace metals chromium (Cr), cadmium (Cd) copper (Cu), lead (Pb) Zinc (Zn), measured Atomic Absorption Spectrometer. range concentrations follows: Cr (1.95–3.43 Zn (205.76-265.71 mg/kg), Cu (0.60–1.1mg/kg), Cd (3.8-4.1 Pb (0.92-1.11mg/kg wet weight. (0.1-0.8 (0.003-0.34 (0.10-0.13 (0.07-0.08 (0.23-0.34 mg/l). Higher recorded studied except Cu, those below standard prescribed ranges 0.602 1.113 mg/kg 0.10 0.13 mg/l 1.95 3.43 0.156 0.807 respectively. However, Cd, suggest that could contaminated these well.

Assessment of heavy metals contamination and human health risk in shrimp collected from different farms and rivers at Khulna-Satkhira region, Bangladesh

This study is aimed to assess the heavy metals contamination and health risk in Shrimp (Macrobrachium rosenbergii and Penaeus monodon) collected from Khulna-Satkhira region in Bangladesh. The results showed that the Pb concentrations (0.52-1.16 mg/kg) in all shrimp samples of farms were higher than the recommended limit. The Cd levels (0.05-0.13 mg/kg) in all samples and Cr levels in all farms ...

Determination of Heavy Metal Content in Water, Sediment and Microalgae from Lake Victoria, East Africa

Lake Victoria, which is the largest fresh water lake in Africa, represents a unique ecosystem that has the largest fresh water fishery in the continent. However, increased anthropogenic activities has increased the potential pollution of the lake especially the heavy metal pollutants which may be toxic to humans and aquatic fauna. There is need therefore for continuous monitoring of pollution l...
